McIlroy unlikely to find reinforcements
Sammy McIlroy has issued a Morecambe rallying call ahead of tomorrow's clash with Chesterfield.
The Christie Park boss was in talks with a League One club about signing a winger, but his target is back in the first-team picture again and McIlroy says it is unlikely he will add to his squad before the transfer window closes on Monday.
"I've got faith in these lads, they've taken us a long way this season," said McIlroy.
"They won seven in a row before Christmas, a fantastic effort, and if they can produce that sort of form again then we've a great chance to achieve something special this year."
"There was a player I looked at, but that has come to nothing – I doubt if I'll be active in the market.
"That goes for players leaving too, but you never know what might happen if something crops up on Monday."
Ninth-placed Chesterfield are one place in front of Morecambe, but the Shrimps are just a couple of points adrift of the play-off pack and in with a real shout of a promotion bid.
Morecambe grabbed another point in midweek, drawing 2-2 against McIlroy's former club Macclesfield at Moss Rose, while the Spireites lost 1-0 to Rotherham at Saltergate.
McIlroy said: "We were poor in the first half, it was a performance not up to our usual standard.
"But we were a lot brighter after half-time and when Will Haining grabbed our second I could only see one winner."
