Macclesfield Town 2 Morecambe 2

A late goal from Ricky Sappleton robbed the Shrimps of a second successive league win.

Sappleton scored with a fine volley from the edge of the area that took a wicked deflection as it flew past Barry Roche's right hand to deny Sammy McIlroy's side another three points.

After being second best for the second period Macclesfield then went close to winning the game with substitute Ben Wright denied an injury-time winner when his close range far-post volley was superbly saved by Morecambe keeper Barry Roche.

In the first half, Roche also reacted sharply to save from a long-range Carl Tremarco effort before the home side took the lead on 38 minutes when Lee Bell's low cross was converted by Craig Lindfield who had a trial with the Shrimps earlier in the season.

The Shrimps dominated the second half and were back in the game on 52 minutes when Stuart Drummond scored for the second successive game as he latched on to Phil Jevons' knock down and flashed a fierce volley past Brain from 10 yards.

The Shrimps took the lead 12 minutes later with a top quality strike. Central defender Will Haining set off on a run down the middle and linked up with Jevons before slotting the ball superbly past Brain.

The Shrimps looked certain winners until Sappleton's special which gave Macclesfield a clear boost.

The home side ended on the front foot but Roche was at his sharpest.
