Hoyle prepares Dolly Blues' promotion push

Lancaster City hope to be back in the UniBond Division One North play-off positions after two vital away games in the coming days.

Tomorrow the Dolly Blues head to Halifax Town, before they tackle Newcastle Blue Star on Wednesday night in a rearranged clash.

Two wins and a draw in the last three games have lifted them up to sixth place, six points behind Halifax and five adrift of Blue Star.

So caretaker manager Mick Hoyle can't underestimate the importance of the double-header as he prepares for the trip to The Shay.

Hoyle said: "Seven points from three games is a decent return, and now we're just one place outside the play-off places.

"Tomorrow's game is a big one for us. We're six points behind Halifax with two games in hand, so a win would close the gap.

"Then we've got Newcastle Blue Star away after that, so it's an important few days for us.

"Both games will be difficult, but we're going okay at the moment and we'll see how things go.

"We've no fresh injuries from the win over Garforth on Tuesday night.

"The lads played well and deserved the three points."

This will be chief executive Hoyle's fourth game in charge as caretaker following the departure of Barrie Stimpson a fortnight ago.

He revealed that the club had spoken to Tony Greenwood earlier in the week about the vacancy, but he's since taken the Bamber Bridge job.

Said Hoyle: "We've nothing to announce yet with regards to the manager's position.

"There won't be anything over the weekend. We discussed the job with Tony Greenwood, and we're speaking with other candidates, so we are getting closer."

Peter Smith's mid-table Clitheroe outfit travel to the North East to take on fifth-placed play-off hopefuls Newcastle Blue Star in UniBond Division One North tomorrow.
