Young motorbike racer Adam Cross is looking to make up for lost time this year.
The 18-year-old saw his dream of competing on the race circuit in Spain last year dashed after he was let down by a major sponsor.
However, the former Garstang High School pupil is aiming to get back on his bike for the forthcoming season in the UK.
His dad Paul said: “We are getting him back racing. He was supposed to be going to Spain to race at the end of last year.
“He got a ride with a big racing team over there – a big sponsor came on board.
“Everything was in place but it all came crashing down around us when the sponsor backed out – we were left with nothing.”
Despite the setback, Cross – who has a number of small loyal sponsors – is gearing himself up for another shot at winning the MRO Minitwins National Competition this summer after he finished second last year.
A former junior North West champion, Cross has been tipped for the top by many expert judges in the sport.
Last year he was invited to experience race conditions at Brands Hatch for one of the British Superbikes Championship rounds.
His dad added: “He did the practice and his qualifying times were reasonable. To say it was his first time on the bike in a race situation, it was quite impressive.”
Cross is hoping to raise further funds for the forthcoming season by staging an entertainment evening at Garstang’s Wyrebank Banqueting Suite on April 18. A DJ will entertain guests and there will be food and a raffle.
