Leyland and Chorley ladies 1sts knocked Clitheroe and Blackburn 2nds off top spot in the LCWHA Premier Division with an emphatic 5-0 win.
Unbeaten L&C leapfrogged C&B to top the table thanks to an impressive home performance.
L&C took the lead just six minutes in. Louise Hutchinson delivered the ball perfectly for Sarah Winstanley, who fired home in style.
Both sides fought hard, creating end-to-end pressure, and another strike from Winstanley fizzed agonisingly wide of the post.
But C&B remained strong as they stole the ball and launched a slick counter-attack that resulted in a short corner being awarded.
A powerful strike from the opposition left keeper Alison Clewlow unnerved but she made an incredible save.
And L&C doubled their lead in the 14th minute. Becca Halsall intercepted and made a fine solo run into the D, before slipping the ball to Nicola Wallbank, who crossed the ball into the path of Marie Meagher to fire home.
A strong attack from L&C led to another short corner.
A rebounded strike from Winstanley gave Wallbank the chance to move the ball and slip it through the legs of the keeper to make it three.
L&C were awarded yet another short corner in the 25th minute, and Halsall put the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed.
Meagher took a blow to the chin following a tackle, when the ball deflected from her stick, and half-time was blown early with both teams concerned for her welfare.
The second half began with both sides showing determination and skill, utilising the entire width of the pitch. L&C were quick to gain control and maintain their attacking rhythm.
Within 10 minutes, Leyland had scored their fourth goal as Sarah King made a run, and slipped the ball to Winstanley in the D, who teed-up Rachel Hutchinson.
Her powerful strike towards goal deflected into the path of Winstanley, who tapped home.
Hutchinson completed the scoring with a fine finish as she ran into the D and fired home from the top of the D.
L&C ladies 2nds’ game was postponed and the ladies 3rds lost 2-1 to Clitheroe and Blackburn 4ths.
The Leyland and Chorley men’s 1sts team drew 2-2 with Bolton men’s 1sts.
Wayne Johnson and Simon Myers hit the back of the net as Leyland slipped to third in the North West Hockey League Division Three North table.

There was a prolonged spell of excellent midfield work from Tom Mclellen, Damien Kaighin and Raul Bamani, and some pressing moves down the right from Sarkwat Karim, linking with Gary Shivers.
L&C continued to push for a goal and had several penalty corners, but they could not convert any.
With only a few minutes to go to half-time, against the run of play, Formby scored from a penalty corner.
L&C started the second half well but Formby converted another penalty corner. L&C rallied in the last 15 minutes but despite continued pressure, Leyland failed to fire.
