Commonwealth Games silver medal winner Ellie Watton put young hockey players through their paces during a visit to Preston.
Wattan held a training session for Preston Hockey Club’s kids at their West Cliff site on Tuesday night.
She was in the England team which came within seconds of a gold medal at this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, only for Australia to equalise right at the death in the final and force a penalty shoot-out.
John Bowman, one of the junior managers at Preston Hockey Club, said: “Ellie put on a great session for the kids and the intensity of it really caught our eye. She worked them a lot harder than we might do and they loved it.
“Afterwards all the kids stayed behind to have their photo taken with Ellie and she answered all their questions.
“Sessions like this are invaluable to the children and hopefully it can inspire them to keep playing hockey and keep improving. Hopefully too, word can get around and inspire others to come down.”
