Gregan: My honour at PNE parade

Sean Gregan on the Deepdale pitch

Sean Gregan on the Deepdale pitch

Sean Gregan column

I felt humble walking on to the Deepdale pitch at half-time on Saturday and getting such a great reception from the Preston North End fans.

Part of the birthday celebrations for Sir Tom Finney was a parade of former players from down the years, and speaking on behalf of us all, a big thank you to North End and the supporters.

There were players were different generations, right through from the 1950s – some whom had played with Sir Tom – through to when I was here.

Even the booing for Tony Ellis was light-hearted and I think he enjoyed being the pantomime villain for the afternoon!

Mind you, I bet most North End fans would love to see the Tony Ellis of yesteryear back in the team at the moment.

Before the game, we had lunch with supporters in the Great Room and the DVD tribute to Sir Tom was played to us all.
