Golf: Celebrities join fund-raising at Rosemere

Rosemere Golfers Against Cancer have staged their seventh annual fundraising Celebrity-Am day and dinner at Leyland Golf Club.

Former footballers Andy Ritchie, David Johnson, Alex Stepney and Arthur Albiston joined entertainers and teams of local golfers for a successful tournament, followed by a presentation dinner with cabaret.

European Tour golfer Paul Eales hosted a putting clinic in the morning before joining the competition, along with fellow RGAC patron entertainer Norman Prince, the former frontman of the Hoghton Weavers.

Leyland golfer Keith McIntosh, founder of Rosemere Golfers Against Cancer, said: "Since 2001, we have been raising money for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

"Once again, we have had a great event at Leyland Golf Club, it's a fantastic venue.

"Next month, we move on to Morecambe Golf Club and in August we are holding our annual Ball at Shaw Hill Golf Club. As we become better known, we want to get all our local golf clubs involved in the cause."

Eales added: "This is such an important cause, Norman and I are delighted to lend our services to these events. Apart from the significant fundraising, they are always great fun."

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation is based in the Radiotherapy Department at the Royal Preston Hospital.
