Morcambe-based golf star Gary Wolstenholme held his nerve to seal victory in the ISPS Handa Australian Senior Open, after Terry Price piled on the pressure with a birdie at the final hole to set up a tense finish.
Wolstenholme headed into the final day two shots behind the leader Roger Davis.
An impressive three-under final round of 69 saw Wolstenholme leapfrog Davis and claim the title, despite a spirited challenge from Price finishing one shot behind.
Davis was a further shot back from that.
Wolstenholme decided to play over in Australia in preparation for the penultimate event on the European Senior Tour, where he is well on course for a top-five finish in the Order of Merit. He is also leading the chase to get his hands on another title – Rookie of The Year – where is well ahead of his nearest rivals.
“I’m really glad I was able to squeeze this tournament into my schedule because Perth is a fantastic city,” said Wolstenholme.
