Preston North End's leading scorer Callum Robinson has surgery on a damaged hamstring

Preston North End attacker Callum Robinson has undergone surgery to repair the hamstring damage he suffered in last week's derby win over Blackburn Rovers.

Robinson, PNE's leading scorer with 10 goals, pulled-up in the second half with the injury and a scan showed that the tendon in his hamstring had come away from the muscle.

Speaking after North End's 3-0 defeat at Birmingham City on Saturday, Neil said: "Callum had his operation today and will be out for the best part of three months.

"The surgeon went in and at the moment that is what we think the timeline will be."

Robinson was one of seven first-team players who missed the Birmingham game.

Tom Clarke and Ben Pearson were the latest casualties, both travelling with the squad to St Andrew's but being unable to play.

Clarke broke his nose against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night and the swelling from that has since spread down his face to his mouth.

Pearson is nursing a thigh strain which is an ongoing issue and should hopefully be back against Nottingham Forest next week
