“I always get a bit of stick off their fans for whatever reason, but in the main my teams have done well there in terms of a performance.

“Elland Road is one of the great older establishments you go to and has got a good atmosphere.

“Their fans are excellent and really get behind the team.”

It is a strong start under Marcelo Biesla, the former Argentina and Chile head coach. Neil is not surprised to see Leeds at the summit, even taking into account last term’s 13th-place finish.

“Thomas Christiansen had them top of the league last October,” said Neil.

“Then two months later Thomas went from being top of the table to being out of the door.

“Marcelo Biesla has come in and started well, he has got them working hard and they are organised.”
