Preston North End winger Lee Holmes has joined League Two outfit Portsmouth on loan until January.
The 27-year-old joined North End in May 2012 when he was signed by previous boss Graham Westley.
The former Southampton star featured regularly last season as Simon Grayson’s men missed out on promotion from League One when they were beaten by Rotherham in the play-off semi-finals.
However, illness has disrupted his progress during this campaign and he has only made one appearance – the 3-2 win over Port Vale at Deepdale in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last month.
Holmes started his career at Derby and has had loan spells at Swindon Town, Bradford City and Walsall.
He has has made more than 70 league appearances for North End.
“He’s a great asset to have and we’d like to thank Preston for their help in getting the deal over the line,” Pompey boss Andy Awford told the Portsmouth FC website.
