Preston North End midfielder Joel Byrom is joining Northampton Town on loan until January.
The 27-year-old has found first-team chances hard to come by in recent months, with his last appearance in the PNE side coming in last season’s FA Cup tie at Wycombe.
He moved to North End on a Bosman from Stevenage in July 2012 and made 41 appearances in a Preston shirt, scoring five goals.
The loan deal with the Cobblers runs until January 4 and the Liywhites have allowed him to play in the cup competitions for the League Two side.
Northampton boss Chris Wilder said: “I tried to sign Joel last year and I’ve been tracking his career ever since he was at Northwich, so he’s a boy I know very well.
“He’s played in teams that have been at the top of the leagues that they’ve been in and we’re hoping he will bring a quality and experience to the squad here.
“We were after a left-footed player in central midfield to give us the balance that we’ve lost due to the injuries and he gives us that; having been at Stevenage he’s a very fit boy as well so we’re looking to him for some energy.
“He can play in a two or a three and it’s a signing that we’re very happy with.”
Byrom’s Cobblers debut will come against Shrewsbury at Sixfields Stadium on Saturday.
