Jamie Douglas’ late goal sealed a point for Preston North End as Deepdale was treated to a fantastic six-goal Boxing Day thriller as North End drew 3-3 with Carlisle.
Super sub Jamie Douglas’ last gasp goal capped off a six goal Christmas cracker as PNE drew 3-3 with Carlisle.
The young striker scored two minutes into stoppage time to salvage a 3-3 draw against Carlisle in front of the biggest crowd of the season at Deepdale.
The Irishman had only just come on for Iain Hume but his 92nd minute tap-in ensured North End shared the spoils in their Boxing Day clash.
Lee Miller opened the scoring for the Cumbrians in the 19th minute with a slick spot-kick. Miller was fouled by Jamie McCombe and dusted himself down to smash the ball past Thorsten Stuckmann.
But North End striker Hume equalised two and a half minutes later.
Hume lost his marker and pounced on Stuckmann’s lofted goal kick and fired home.
PNE doubled their tally in the 30th minute as referee Steve Rushton pointed to the spot once again.
Paul Parry was clipped in the box by Carlisle centre back Lubomir Michalik and the winger stepped up to fire the subsequent spot-kick past Adam Collin.
Hume could have put PNE out of sight as he ran one-on-one with Collin in the 42nd minute but the goalkeeper thwarted the striker.
PNE rued that missed opportunity as the visitors equalised in first-half stoppage time. The match was halted when Rory Loy suffered a suspected broken leg and the referee added nine minutes extra for the hold up.
Carlisle equalised in the fourth minute of extra time as Francois Zoko sublime spin allowed him to fire the ball beyond Stuckmann.
The visitors took the lead in the 62nd minute. Stuckmann was wrong-footed as James Berrett’s 20-yard strike took a big deflection off Nathan Doyle and flew into the back of the net. But teen hero Douglas’s late goal ensured PNE bagged a point.
