Preston North End boss Simon Grayson was pleased with his seventh piece of incoming summer transfer business yesterday, signing goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.
The 34-year-old joined on a Bosman having left Sheffield Wednesday in June after turning down a new contract there.
He was due to join Bradford City yesterday but North End made their move to get him to Deepdale on a one-year contract.
Grayson said: “We got a call on Tuesday night about him and we moved very quickly yesterday to do something.
“He was about to sign for another club and that is why we moved like we did to secure his services.
“Chris brings a vast amount of experience with him, he is a good goalkeeper and this is a great opportunity for him to push Jordan Pickford all the way.
“He can help develop Jordan as well, Chris can pass on his experience to Jordan and our other young keepers too.”
Kirkland’s arrival is likely to see Jamie Jones loaned out.
With regards Jones, Grayson added:”We will see where that one goes and see what develops.”
