MEET THE BOSS:

Martin Kuhl, Reading’s Under-21s coach, will take charge of the Royals at Deepdale.

Kuhl has been taking training for the past few days following the sacking of Steve Clarke last week. Kuhl had a long career as a player, making more than 500 appearances. He played for Birmingham, Sheffield United, Watford, Portsmouth, Derby and Bristol City, had a spell in Hong Kong,before moving into non-league football. Kuhl has been No.2 at Aldershot and Wycombe, before he joined Reading on the youth coaching staff.

MEET THE REF:

Geoff Eltringham from County Durham is in charge of PNE’s game with Reading. This is the 10th time he has refereed a North End match. The last time he was at Deepdale was for the 2-0 win over Peterborough in March. This is his 19th game of the season.

THIS WEEK:

37 YEARS AGO

On December 12, 1978, North End hammered Charlton Athletic 6-1 at Deepdale. Alex Bruce and Eric Potts both netted twice, with Gordon Coleman and Michael Robinson also on target. The win formed part of a 15-game unbeaten run in the league put together by Nobby Stiles’ men.

29 YEARS AGO

This week in 1986, Preston beat Chorley 5-0 in an FA Cup second-round replay.

The sides had drawn 0-0 at neutral Ewood Park but PNE made no mistake in the replay. John Thomas scored a hat-trick, Gary Brazil and Oshor Williams completing the scoring.

21 YEARS AGO

On December 10, 1994, Preston beat Hereford 4-2, their first win under 
Gary Peters. Ian Bryson scored twice, Kevin Magee and Mike Conroy also finding the net.
