Preston North End centre-half Bailey Wright is in Australia’s squad to face England at the Stadium of Light tonight.
If selected, the 23-year-old will have the job of keeping Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney in check as Roy Hodgson’s men play their penultimate warm-up game ahead of Euro 2016. Here are 10 things you might not know about Wright:
Wright’s international debut for Australia came on English soil in September 2014 – he scored in the Socceroos’ 3-2 firiendly win over Saudi Arabia at Fulham’s Craven Cottage ground.
He is North End’s current longest-serving player – he joined the club as a teenager in 2009.
When Wright was waiting to be granted a visa in order to sign for Preston, he played a couple of games for the PNE Fans’ team to stay fit.
Although a proud Aussie, there is some British Bulldog spirit in the Wright household – he has a pet bulldog called Dennis.
Wright was voted PNE’s Community Player of the Year earlier this month for the work he does for charity and visits made to local schools and events.
His Preston first-team debut came in a 5-0 win at Stockport in the League Cup in August 2010.
Four years ago, Wright was briefly transfer-listed by former PNE boss Graham Westley before there was a U-turn.
Wright was in the Australia squad at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but did not get on the pitch.
He has the No.8 squad number in the Aussie pool.
If picked to play against England, Wright has faced Wayne Rooney before – when Manchester United beat Preston North End 3-1 at Deepdale in the FA Cup in February 2015
