The boys are back in town

Preston North End's squad are back in training as they prepare for another crack at the Championship.

Manager Alan Irvine, who turned down West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday to remain at the Deepdale helm, said: "Working on the training pitch with the lads is the best part of the job and we've had a tough couple of days.

"They know how hard it is going to be for the next month, and the lads said many times last year that the pre-season was the hardest many had ever done.

"But they saw the benefits of that last year and that made it very easy to sell another month of very hard work to them.

"They know it's the foundation from which they can hopefully go on and have another good season."
