Pressure is growing on under-fire Preston North End boss Graham Westley as the Lilywhites slipped to within five points of the League One relegation zone.
Westley though, will be in the dugout for PNE’s clash with in-form Yeovil Town at Huish Park on Tuesday night.
But he knows an instant improvement in results is needed, with the patience of the club’s hierarchy now stretched to the limit by a run of just one league win in 13.
North End’s 1-0 defeat to Colchester United at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday saw them remain in 17th place.
Colchester closed the gap on them to three points, while a victory for Scunthorpe United over Crawley Town did likewise.
Oldham Athletic, in 21st place, beat MK Dons 3-1 at Boundary Park to move within five points of Preston.
Commenting on defeat to Colchester, Westley said: “We are disappointed to have lost another game.
“I think the work ethic of the players over 90 minutes was solid, and the desire they showed at 0-0 and then 1-0 down was clear and evident.
“The difference between what we are doing and winning is very slight.
“But we are stopping on the wrong side of the line on a consistent basis.
“We have to make sure we change our mindset and get over the line, do a little bit more in both possession and in defence.
“At their end of the pitch we could easily have scored with Andy Procter’s header from the set piece early on, from Lee Holmes’ chance which hit the bar with the keeper’s help and with Joe Garner’s volley which went over.
“I’m picking out three great chances and there were others when we could have found the net.
“Defensively we seem to concede soft goals.
“We don’t concede a lot of chances - we organise ourselves quite well around oppositions.
“But at vital moments we make errors and that is costing us.”
Bailey Wright will miss the Yeovil game through suspension after being sent-off in the 80th minute of the Colchester defeat.
The Australian centre-half was dismissed after being cautioned twice inside 60 seconds, the second one a touch on the harsh side after a tangle with U’s striker Jabo Ibehre.
With the red card being for two bookings, no appeal is allowed and Wright will serve a one-match ban.
