Preston North End manager Graham Westley has stripped Paul Coutts of the captaincy at Deepdale.

The Scottish midfielder is about to start a two-match suspension after collecting his 10th booking of the season against Yeovil Town last week.

And Westley has admitted he’s not been pleased with Coutts’ attitude since he took the North End job three weeks ago.

Westley said: “I’ll be honest with you, I have been very disappointed in Couttsy since I have been here.

“There was a lot of speculation and I had a very long conversation with him before the Leyton Orient game on the Friday night about whether he was going to put in a transfer request or not.

“Look, he was the captain of this football club, and on a Friday night before a game I should not have been having to have a conversation with him about a transfer request.

“I have told him this week that I’m going to take the captaincy away from him and let him concentrate on his playing duties.

“He has got to get himself focused on getting himself right.

“I don’t care if a player has got this talent, that talent or the other talent, I believe in the team.”

Westley added: “I have sent him away for a couple of days, told him to spend some time on his own and get his head together.”

The PNE boss said he has yet to make up his mind you will wear the captain’s armband against Brentford on Saturday
