EX-PNE SKIPPER SEAN GREGAN’S COLUMN
Level terms: The anguish shows on the keeper's face after Nicky Wroe equalises
After three defeats on the bounce, Saturday’s draw against Coventry City could be seen as a step in the right direction for Preston North End.
Scoring two goals gave the supporters something to cheer about, and North End showed some character to come back from being 2-1 down.
Maybe when Coventry went in front, the crowd was thinking, ‘Here we go again’, so every credit to the team for getting the equaliser.
It was good to see Graham Cummins on the scoresheet because every team wants their strikers scoring.
And I’ve spoken before about Nicky Wroe’s contribution in the opposition box, and that’s nine goals now for him from midfield this season.
Position-wise, the draw leaves North End still in 16th place and 13 points off the play-offs, so it would take an amazing run for them to make up that ground.
I said five or six weeks ago that it was take a great run of results to lift them towards the top six and obviously that hasn’t happened.
So it looks like another season in League One for PNE, which is frustrating for everyone connected with the club.
