A damp and dreary Essex basked in a yellow glow as thousands of Preston North End fans invaded Colchester ahead of today’s possible promotion party.
If North End win they will return to the Championship after a four year hiatus but North End fans were not cowering in fear biting their nails.
With their team a point ahead of rivals MK Dons with one game to go more than 3,000 PNE fans were in jubilant spirits ahead of the 12.15 kick off.
The fans are aiming to turn a third of the ground into a wall of yellow with 5,000 balloons, one man dressed as Ali-G in a bright yellow onesie and thousands in the yellow away strip that Simon Grayson’s men will wear today.
And one man flew half way around the world just to watch today’s crunch clash.
Shaun Beardsworth, from Leyland, flew back from Thailand to be at the Weston Homes Community Stadium to hopefully watch Joe Garner and company fire North End back to the promised land.
I’ve come back just for this. It would mean everything if we can get promoted. It is the reason I’ve flown halfway across the world to be here.Shaun Beardsworth
