PNE fans angry over football stewards

Angry Preston North End fans are calling for "heavy-handed" stewards to get sacked following Saturday's game at Plymouth Argyle.

Fans claim security staff at Home Park put supporters at risk by man-handling them. PNE said it has received several complaints which it has vowed to raise with the Devon club.

One PNE fan, Greg Winders, 24, who lives in St Dominic, Cornwall, was at the Championship league game with his family.

He said unrest started half an hour into the game in the Barn Park end when a Preston supporter was "violently grabbed" and wrestled to the ground.

Mr Winders said: "The fan's only crime was standing up and singing. The resulting struggle led to three more stewards including an orange jacketed supervisor getting involved and dragging the fan kicking through the other supporters. It was quite shocking for people who were around there including children.

"It put fans, including myself, in danger when there was no danger beforehand. It was generally poor stewarding from then on."

He said fans, including a child, ran to his row of seats for safety as supporters from both sides sang chants protesting against the stewards. Other fans have left messages online complaining about "out of control"

stewards, including claims one supporter was headbutted.

A Preston North End spokesman said: "We have had a few complaints and I am sure we will be contacting Plymouth Argyle to see if everything was in order."

A spokesman for Plymouth Argyle said: "I would urge any Preston fans, if they do have any complaints, to get in touch and we will deal with them."
