Preston North End boss Simon Grayson has bolstered his strike force by signing England U20 international striker Callum Robinson.
Robinson has joined North End on a youth loan from Aston Villa and is named on the bench for tonight’s clash against Chesterfield at Deepdale.
The 19-year-old has made five senior appearances for the Premier League side and joins the Lilywhites until October, 18.
Manager Grayson was delighted to add to his attacking options after losing Andy Little and Jordan Hugill in Saturday’s clash against Walsall.
Little suffered a hamstring injury and Hugill - who came off the bench to replace the Northern Irish international - starts his three match ban tonight after being sent off against the Saddlers.
And Grayson revealed PNE beat other clubs to secure the services of the promising young striker.
He said: “It is no secret that we have needed another striker in.
“He’s a player we have watched a lot. Villa hold him in high regard and that is why they have only just allowed him to come out on loan.
“He has a great attitude, is pacy, tricky and can play down the middle or wide in a three. He is an England international and we have beaten a lot of other clubs to his signature.
“We are very grateful to Paul Lambert for allowing him to come here and hopefully it will benefit Villa, the player and of course ourselves.”
Robinson has been given the number 27 shirt and he is eligible for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie with Port Vale.
The young striker goes straight into the squad as Grayson makes three changes to the side that lost 3-1 at Walsall on Saturday for tonight’s League One fixture.
Josh Brownhill, Alan Browne and Will Hayhurst were all recalled to the starting XI.
Whilst Chris Humprey, Little and John Welsh are all absent due to injuries.
And Jack King moves to the bench as Grayson switches to a 4-3-3 formation.
