Preston North End have landed a home tie with Premier League new boys Watford in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

That was their reward for beating Crewe 3-1 at Gresty Road on Wednesday night, goals from Jordan Hugill (pen), Will Keane and Josh Brownhill sending them through.

North End were unseeded in the draw so were guaranteed to be paired with either a Premier League club or a side from the top half of the Championship based on last season’s final placings.

The tie will be played in the week commencing August 24, possibly on Wednesday August 26 as Watford play a league game the previous Sunday.

Watford were promoted to the top flight after finishing runners-up in the Championship in May.

Quique Flores was appointed as their head coach in the summer, the Spaniard replacing Slavisa Jokanovic who was sacked after guding the Hornets to promotion.

Flores is the fifth person to hold the head coach position at Vicarge Road in 12 months.

North End last met Watford on the final day of the 2010/11 season, the Lilywhites winning 3-1.
