Southport suffered their second defeat in five days when they were beaten 1-0 by Lincoln City in a closely fought encounter at Sincil Bank in the Conference Premier.

Joe Connor and Richard Brodie both came close to scoring for the Sandgrounders but were denied by Imps’ keeper Paul Farman.

And a 62nd-minute header by Tom Miller from Sean Newton’s cross wrapped up the points for the home side.

Port remain in 20th position, three points clear of the drop zone.

Boss Gary Brabin said he was disappointed that his team could not force the draw which he thought their performance deserved.

Now his players must prepare for their second round FA Cup match on Sunday at home to Eastleigh.

In the NPL First Division North, Bamber Bridge ran out 2-1 winners at home to New Mills.

Brig left it late though, both goals – from Andrew Bell and Stuart Vasey – came in stoppage time.

But there was little other local cheer in the division.

Clitheroe lost 1-0 at home to Mossley, Andy Keogh on target.

And Kendal Town were hammered 3-0 at home by Farsley, two Lewis Nightingale penalties among their
goals.

Adam Priestley got the other late on for Farsley.

Burscough went down by the only goal at Salford City. Sam Madeley (58) got the winner at Moor Lane.

And the only other game involving a local side never even got started as Lancaster City’s visit to Darlington 1883 was wiped out by a waterlogged pitch.

The Dolly Blues will be back in Doodson Cup action at home to Witton Albion tomorrow.

The other local ties sees Bamber Bridge’s travel to Northwich Victoria.
