Southport extended their recent run of good form with a 2-0 home victory over fellow Conference Premier strugglers Dartford.
The win put them seven points above the drop zone, having lost only once in the last eight matches.
A lacklustre Dartford side managed to hold their own in the first half.
But the breakthrough came in the 64th minute when leading scorer Richard Brodie hammered the ball into the net through a crowded goalmouth from a corner by George Donnelly.
There was never any danger that the Sandgrounders would lose their lead and Paul Rutherford sealed the victory in the fourth minute of stoppage time, just nine minutes after coming on to the pitch.
In the NPL First Division North, Bamber Bridge won their crunch match at Scarborough Athletic 2-1.
Kieron Pickup (7) and Darren Green (50) put Brig in command, before a 90th-minute strike from Ryan Blott gave Boro late hope.
Lancaster City were also winners on the road, by a margin of 3-1 at Brighouse Town.
Neil Marshall (28) gave the Dolly Blues the lead but Thomas Matthews (49) levelled.
Ryan Winder (73) restored City’s lead from the spot, before Jacob Davis (84) settled it.
Clitheroe had a fruitless day, losing 2-0 at Farsley AFC.
And Kendal Town had to settle for a goalless draw at Harrogate Railway Athletic.
Burscough were without a game this weekend.
