Chorley 3 Holker Old Boys 0

Promotion-chasing Chorley advanced into the final of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy as they outplayed minnows Holker Old Boys.

The Magpies dominated throughout the entire tie as the four-league difference showed.

Victory for Chorley sees them reach the final, where they await the winners of Clitheroe and Atherton Collieries.

The final will be played at Bolton Wanderers’ Macron Stadium.

Chorley opened the scoring in just the fifth minute as Chris Almond tapped in from one yard out.

On the stroke of half-time their lead was doubled as Jack Lynch scored a fine individual effort, before the scoring was rounded off in the 73rd minute as centre-half Matt Flynn headed home from six yards.

Garry Flitcroft made six changes for the game, opting to give several fringe players a much needed run-out.

Andy Teague twice forced goalkeeper Oliver Bell into saves from a corner and from the rebound the Holker shot-stopper pushed wide a Harry Winter shot.

From the resulting set-piece, centre-half Flynn nodded down and from a yard out, Almond pushed the ball over the line.

Bell was certainly the busier of the two goalkeepers as he first saved a Lynch effort, before seeing a sliced Chris Simm shot go wide of the
post.

The Conference North side continued to dominate, Winter had his head in his hands as he shot wide from inside the area, before full-back Adam Mather whipped a ball across the face of goal, which just evaded Almond.

On the stroke of half-time, Chorley doubled their lead and all but put the game to bed.

Mark Ross pushed forward down the right, his searching cross found Lynch and the former Carlisle man showed real quality looping a right-footed volley over Bell.

Chorley’s superior quality continued to show and with just over 15 minutes remaining they scored a third.

Full-back Mather curled in a free-kick from the right byline and quickest off the mark was Flynn to nod the ball past Bell and score his first goal for the Magpies.
