Brig out of the cup

The day started off well for the home side as they took the lead after only five through Mike Potts.

However, that was to be as good as it got for Brig as Dominic Riordan equalised immediately and then Robert Bordman scored twice to put the vistors 3-1 ahead at half-time.

Bordman completed his hat-trick on the hour-mark before Phil Doughty grabbed a consolation effort with four minutes remaining. There was still time for Brig to restore their three-goal cushion courtesy of James Eyles.

Elsewhere, Burscough beat Parkgate 4-1, Kendal lost 2-0 to Shildon, but Lancaster City thrashed West Auckland 5-1. Clitheroe lost 1-0 to Consett.

Meanwhile, Danny Rowe struck an incredible four goals as AFC Fylde came out on top in an entertaining match against Alfreton Town.

Despite trailing at the break, an attacking masterclass in the second half from the Coasters earned a second away win in just five days.

Rowe opened the scoring with a brilliant free-kick, but Ryan Wilson equalised for the home side. It was Rowe who put Fylde back in front only for Alfreton to take the lead courtesy of Craig Westcarr and Dan Bradley’s penalty.

After half-time, Rowe’s thunderbolt squared the match and he put the visitors ahead once more. It was left to James Hardy to seal the victory.

Southport continued their disastrous start to the season when they were beaten 4-0 at Sincil Bank by Lincoln City.

All four goals were scored by Johnny Margetts who, ironically, played for the Sandgrounders on loan last season and was a transfer target in the summer when he opted to sign for the Imps instead.

Judging by the abject performance by his old side, he made a wise decision as Southport showed no bite in attack and the defence was virtually non-existent.

Goalkeeper, Ty Belford, saved a penalty and was the only visiting player to come away with any credit.
