Ally can take a step up

Bamber Bridge player/assistant manager Neil Reynolds believes much sought-after winger Ally Waddecar can go far in the game – that’s if he wants to.
Brig have received interest in the 21-year-old recently, most notably from NPL Premier Division outfit Chorley.
And Reynolds admits the attacker has the ability to progress higher up the football pyramid.
But in a stark warning to potential suitors, Reynolds said that it would take a significant cash offer for Brig to part with their prized asset.
“If he wants to, then Ally can play at a higher level,” Reynolds said.
“I’m not questioning his ambition, but he’s got a good job, he enjoys his job and he’s happy playing semi-professional football for us
“But if he wants to go higher, he certainly can do.
“He’s still got flaws in his game but I rate him as the best winger in our division and probably the one above.
“We want Alistair to develop as a player with us, but if a team from the next level came in for him with an acceptable offer, we would wish him all the best.
“I don’t think a figure was mentioned when Chorley enquired but it would have to be a five-figure sum – nothing less than ten grand.”
Meanwhile, Reynolds revealed he has no intention of hanging up his boots – just yet.
The 35-year-old veteran’s best years as a player may be well behind him, but such is the midfielder’s enthusiasm for the game, he has no intention of quitting, despite his responsibilities as manager Neil Crowe’s assistant.
After being sidelined with an injury after starting the season in the team, Reynolds is back to full health and ready to aid Brig’s attempts to push up the NPL First Division North table, with tomorrow’s home fixture against league leaders Mossley next on the agenda.
The Tamesiders are one point ahead of Skelmersdale United at the top of the table.
“I’ve no aspiration to stop playing – I want to keep going,” Reynolds said.
“I was injured earlier in the season but I’m back in the squad now and feeling fit.
“I can’t do 50 games a season anymore like I used to but I still feel I can contribute.”
Whether it’s on or off the pitch, Reynolds’ input at Brig is significant and he is eager to help take the club to the next level.
The former Clitheroe stalwart revealed that he and manager Neil Crowe are relishing their partnership at Irongate. And they are eager to turn around a mini-slump of three successive defeats.
“We’re on a journey – me and Crowy,” he said.
“We want to find a level of consistency which we haven’t found at the moment. If we need to, we will being in other players that can do that.”
