New PNE loan signing Anthony Elding in action in his Stockport days

Preston North End have signed Grimsby Town striker Anthony Elding on loan and extended Akpo Sodje’s contract

The 30-year-old front man has joined on an emergency loan until January 1 and is available for Saturday’s game with Brentford at Deepdale.

Elding worked under Graham Westley at Stevenage during Westley’s first spell as Boro boss.

North End are the 15th club of a well-travelled career for Elding, with Leeds, Stockport and Hungarian club Ferencvaros among his former employers.

He’s available to play for North End in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy but is cup-tied for the FA Cup.

After completing the Elding deal, PNE also announced that striker Sodje had extended his stay at Deepdale by a further month.

Sodje, 32, is the club’s second highest scorer this season with seven goals.
