Diouf 'makes contact' with City

Bolton Wanderers' former Liverpool striker El Hadji Diouf is reportedly interested in a move to Manchester City who are reportedly more interested in signing Anfield forward Peter Crouch who is also being linked with Aston Villa and Portsmouth.

Manchester City have had preliminary talks with Diouf's agent, but the Blues' transfer plans are currently uncertain due to speculation surrounding the future of manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Crouch is Eriksson's main striker target and the City boss is also keen on Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon if his club are prepared to sell him, according to the Manchester Evening News.

City owner Thaksin Shinawatra identifies the centre of the pitch as an area which needs strengthening, saying: "Midfielders are the key. We have some good players but we need more."
