Arsenal scupper City's bid for United star
Manchester City's bid to sign Mikael Silvestre from Manchester United may be scuppered by Arsenal.
Sources in London suggest that the Gunners are ready to make a shock move for the French defender.
Once it became clear that the Reds were willing to let the 31-year-old leave Old Trafford after nine years of service, Blue boss Mark Hughes had hoped he held the upper hand and that a 750,000 bid might land his man.
Now it seems the lure of Champions League football could sway Cheshire-based Silvestre.
Should the surprise switch take place then Sunderland will be doubly disappointed.
Black Cats manager Roy Keane, who had also expressed an interest in Silvestre, had a back-up plan that may well have involved a move for City's Michael Ball who, it seems clear, will now be staying put.
