Shaun Beeley, Jamie Devitt, Ryan Edwards and youngster Aaron McGowan have all signed two-year deals with Morecambe, much to the delight of boss Jim Bentley.

Beeley, Edwards and Devitt, who impressed with the club at the end of last season, were three major summer targets for Bentley, while McGowan is the latest graduate of the Shrimps’ growing youth system.

Bentley said: “Beeley, Devitt and Edwards did really well for us last season and I am really pleased that they have agreed to sign.

“They chose us ahead of other clubs and I think that says a lot about Morecambe as a club because they could have gone elsewhere but really enjoyed their time here and bought into what we are trying to achieve.

“I have seen Shaun as one of the best right-backs around at our level, and Jamie proved last year that he can provide that something extra when you need it in tight games.

“Ryan is a defender with a great pedigree and bags of potential who I think has a great future ahead of him.”

Of McGowan he said: “Aaron has been in the youth set up for a couple of seasons now and impressed us all.

“He may only be 17 but he is a good player who is fearless.

“Aaron has already been in and around the first team and made a couple of appearances and we all feel he can get better and better over the next two years.”

Bentley hinted that there may be more deals in the pipeline shortly.

He said: “There are a few more gaps to fill in the squad and a couple of holes we need to fill but talks are ongoing with a few players.’’

The Shrimps’ director in charge of recruitment Mark Mace said he was happy with the deals that had been made so far.

Mace said: “All four players will be great additions to the squad for next season and we are delighted that they have joined us ahead of other clubs.

“Beeley, Devitt and Edwards really enjoyed their time here and enjoyed working with Jim and Ken McKenna and I’m sure they will be crowd favourites next season.”
