Stevenage 1 Morecambe 1
Padraig Amond secured a well earned point for Morecambe with a late goal against Graham Westley’s Stevenage.
The Shrimps’ substitute, who was only a last-minute addition to the squad after missing the last two weeks with injury, rose superbly to head a Jamie Devitt corner into the top right-hand corner of Chris Day’s goal to earn a deserved draw.
Morecambe had the better of the game but once again had to come from behind after conceding a penalty just after the hour mark.
Shrimps’ skipper Mark Hughes brought down David McAllister inside the box after a late lunge and Simon Walton sent Scott Davies the wrong way from the spot.
Jim Bentley’s side fought back strongly and Amond had a great chance to level the scores after being played in by the returning Devitt but his final effort was saved all too easily by Day.
The home keeper then reacted well to claw away a long-range Ryan Williams free-kick, before Amond struck in the final stages of the game.
Morecambe had the better of a scrappy first half and created several excellent chances.
Jack Redshaw was quickly in the thick of the action when he weaved his way into the area and forced an excellent low save from home keeper Day.
Redshaw then had to leave the field with a back injury and his replacement Amond was presented with a chance moments later when he was put through by Paul Mullin but was again denied by an excellent block from Day.
The home keeper reacted superbly again to block at the feet of Mullin, who caused the home side plenty of p roblems.
The young striker had an excellent chance to open the scoring moments later but saw his shot from Williams’ pull-back cleared off the line by Ronnie Henry.
Stevenage failed to threaten the Morecambe goal until the 42nd minute when Ronnie Deacon fired a low shot inches wide of Davies’s right hand post.
