Morecambe's play-off hopes took a blow following a narrow defeat at Rotherham.

The Shrimps missed the chance to captialise on their game in hand over their rivals by going down in a thrilling 3-2 defeat against the men from South Yorkshire.

Ex-Celtic and Portsmouth striker Mark Burchill grabbed what turned out to be the winner when he pounced in the 89th minute.

An injury time strike from Morecambe's Jim Bentley was not enough to keep Sammy McIlroy's side in the points.

The visitors had gone into the break 1-0 down after Rotherham struck on the stroke of half time. O'Carroll grabbed an equaliser in the 52nd minute.

The home side grabbed three points when Taylor popped up with a goal in the 80th minute with Scotsman Burchill making sure nine minutes later.
