Morecambe 1 Oxford United 1
Robbie Threlfall scored a dramatic 92nd-minute equaliser to earn the Shrimps a deserved point against promotion chasers Oxford United.
Left-back Threlfall was credited with getting the final touch to an Andy Fleming corner that was flicked on at the near post by Tony Diagne to give Jim Bentley’s side a worthy share of the points.
Once again, though, Morecambe had to come from behind after another poor start.
Former Republic of Ireland international David Connolly gave the visitors a 13th-minute lead with a shot that took a wicked deflection off Mark Hughes before beating the wrong-footed Barry Roche.
Oxford then had a chance to go two ahead when skipper Johnny Mullins was found free at the far post but his shot was superbly tipped around the post by Roche.
Morecambe then began to find top gear and had a great chance to pull level on 27 minutes.
But after the ball fell invitingly into the path of Jack Sampson, the youngster scuffed his shot and made it too easy for Ryan Clarke.
At the other end, Oxford looked sharp on the counter-attack and, after a poor Shaun Beeley clearance, Alfie Potter drilled a shot inches wide.
From there though the Shrimps took charge with Sampson heading just wide of the left-hand post and Kevin Ellison curling just over.
The dominance continued in the second half but another good chance went begging when Threlfall found Andy Fleming on the edge of the area.
But the midfielder could only blast his shot high over the Oxford crossbar.
The visitors created a rare opening when Sean Rigg drilled a Ryan Williams cross over before the Shrimps staged their late rally.
Substitute Joe McGee looked to be fouled in the box but the penalty claims were waved away.
And when Diagne was denied by Ryan Clarke in the 90th minute the game looked over.
But agony turned to ecstasy two minutes into injury time when Threlfall popped up to become the Shrimps’ unlikely goal hero.
