McIlroy sets play-off target
Sammy McIlroy has set Morecambe a 75-point target to reach the League Two play-offs.
Tuesday's hard-earned 0-0 draw at Bury leaves the Shrimps just three points behind the chasing pack ahead of tomorrow's home date with Port Vale.
"We got 63 points last season, and missed the play-offs by half-a-dozen points, but I think 74 or 75 might get us in this time," said manager McIlroy.
"It is very tight, with half the league in with a shout of finishing in the top seven.
"I wanted a big reaction after the disappointment of losing to Cheltenham, not just for me, but for the players who let themselves down.
"But they fought like tigers and I thought we were a little bit unfortunate not to win.
"They showed great commitment and I've told them that the play-offs are there for them, they've a heck of a chance.
"We just need to find that vein of consistency, that's the key.
"But we've nothing to fear if we produce our best form.
"Our best displays have come against the top sides, taking four points from Bury and beating Bournemouth 5-0. We showed we can compete very well.
"We'll have to put together a big run, like we did before Christmas when we won seven in a row. We can go close."
