Lancashire Police’s football teams are set to make their debut on the international stage.

Both the ladies and men’s football teams have qualified for the 32nd World Police Indoor Tournament.

This is the county police’s first time at the prestigious tournament and they are taking a squad of 19.

The multi-national futsal-based event will take place on October, 6 in the Netherlands.

Futsal is a variant of five-a-side football that is played indoors on a hard surface with a smaller ball and originated in South America in the 1930s.

And ladies manager Martin Kane is overjoyed to be one of 200 teams competing. He said: “This is Lancashire’s first time in the tournament.

“We are taking two teams a men’s and a ladies team – most of the girls played in the eleven-a-side tournament in April.

“The tournament attracts more than 200 teams from around the world – including China, Brazil and Gambia.”
