Keith Keane has left Preston North End and signed for League Two outfit Cambridge United on a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old is the second player to depart Deepdale this summer following Jack King’s decision to join Scunthorpe United yesterday
Keane joined Preston in 2012 from Luton Town and went on to make 76 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring three goals.
He was signed by previous PNE boss Graham Westley as a right-back, but was also deployed in central midfield.
Handed the captain’s armband on a number of occasions, Keane was a regular in the team in the early part of current boss Simon Grayson’s tenure as PNE manager.
However, he fell out of favour at the start of this season and was loaned out to Crawley Town in September.
After returning to Deepdale in December, Keane then joined up with Westley once more at Stevenage on a temporary basis and made seven appearances.
The utility man will join Cambridge once his contract with Preston expires at the end of next month.
