Jones the jack of all trades
Billy Jones is proving a player for all roles since Darren Ferguson took the North End job.
The 22-year-old has featured in three different positions in the three games Ferguson has been in charge.
At Bristol City he came on as a second-half substitute and played in his accustomed right-back slot.
In last week's FA Cup tie against Chelsea, Jones moved to central midfield as Ferguson looked to add some pace to the engine room.
He also started the midweek win at Peterborough in midfield, before moving to left-back for the last 20 minutes when Callum Davidson went off with a head injury.
With Michael Hart impressing at right-back, the role in the centre of the park looks to be Jones' for today's visit of Ipswich to Deepdale.
Ferguson said: "Billy's done really well in midfield, it's something I quickly identified he could do.
"He has good energy, is a good passer and has very good discipline – we need that in the centre of the pitch when I'm encouraging the full-backs to push on a little bit.
"Michael is doing very well at right-back, an added bonus. He came into my thoughts through performances in training, making a big impression.
"All the lads know they have to be 'at it' in training.
"Michael came in against Chelsea and did fine. He got tired towards the end which I expected as he hadn't been playing a great deal.
"He felt tired at Peterborough too, I thought I might have to put Billy back there but then Callum Davidson got injured so he went to left-back."
