Three charities are to benefit from a DVD which pays tribute to Preston North End legend Sir Tom Finney.

The DVD has been produced by North End and is on sale at the Deepdale club shop.

It features coverage of Sir Tom’s civic funeral in February as well as tributes to the winger from a number of football personalities.

Accompanying the DVD is a copy of the tribute programme which was produced for PNE’s home game against Walsall two days after the funeral.

All proceeds from sales are being split between the Alzheimer’s Society, Baby Beat and SPACE – all charities supported by Sir Tom and his family.

North End’s general manager Ben Rhodes, told the Evening Post: “The DVD is a tribute to Sir Tom, who was loved and admired by so many people.

“About 90% of the footage is from the day of his funeral in February, while there are interviews and tributes filmed on the day from several well known figures at Preston North End and the world of football.

“Those who paid their tributes included Sir Bobby Charlton, David Moyes, Graham Alexander and Ian Bryson.

“Those interviews were filmed outside the Minster and back at Deepdale.

“There are some clips of Sir Tom in action in his playing days but the film mainly focuses on the funeral and the events surrounding it.

“It contains some unique footage taken from the roof of the Sir Tom Finney Stand when the funeral cortege passes Deepdale.

“We played a precis of the film at our Player of the Year awards night in May and it was superbly received from everyone there that evening.

“This is a non-profit making venture from the club’s point of view.

“All the money raised will go to the three charities which Sir Tom supported and his family support.

“We think that it is a fitting tribute to Sir Tom who meant so much to everyone connected with Preston North End and to football in general.

“The special tribute programme we produced for the game which was played just after the funeral, comes with the DVD.”

Sir Tom, who made 472 appearances for North End and played 76 times for England, passed away at the age of 91 on February 14.

Thousands of people lined the streets of Preston for his funeral, with live coverage of the ceremony beamed back to Deepdale.

The tribute DVD costs £12.99 and as well as being sold in the club shop can also be purchased by ringing 0844 856 1965.

Meanwhile, a golf tournament in honour of Sir Tom is being held at Preston Golf Club next month.

The Sir Tom Finney Memorial Trophy takes place on Sunday, August 17, with the competition taking the form of a four-man team event.

There is a shotgun start at 2pm, with the entrance
fee including coffee on
arrival and a carvery meal afterwards.
