Ferguson praises job done by PNE

Darren Ferguson hailed the performance of his Preston North End team after Saturday's 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Deepdale.

A three-goal blitz in the first half put PNE in the driving seat, Ross Wallace, Callum Davidson (pen) and Matt James on target in a 12-minute spell.

They then had to fend off a determined fightback from Forest after the interval, Dexter Blackstock reducing the arrears from the spot before substitute Rob Earnshaw hit a second.

It meant a nervous last 15 minutes, but North End held on and made it eight points from the last 12 available.

Ferguson said: "It was an unbelievable first-half performance, I didn't want half-time to come.

"We could have had more than three goals.

"Right from the kick-off we were at it, we got in Forest's faces and were on the front foot.

"If we play like that we can beat anyone at home.

"After half-time the next goal was always going to be important.

"If we'd have got it, game over, simple as that.

"But Forest got it and went and put us under a bit of pressure.

"They went back to front and caused us problems, but we held out for a fantastic victory.

"I'm not going to be critical at all of my players even though we were 3-0 up and ended up winning 3-2."

PNE lost Youl Mawene shortly before the interval, the centre-half limping off with a groin strain which makes him doubtful for Tuesday night's clash with Sheffield Wednesday at Deepdale.
