Kevin Ellison was the star of the show as Morecambe ended a tough period with a superb 1-0 win over Bury.
Ellison scored his seventh goal of the season to earn the Shrimps their first home win for more than two months and end a run of disappointing defeats.
The veteran striker scored from close range with 20 minutes to go after visiting keeper Scott Loach could only parry a shot from Jack Redshaw into his path.
Morecambe had the better of the opening exchanges, pressing the visitors well and the hosts went close on 10 minutes through an Ellison header which ended on the roof of the net after a pinpoint cross from Mark Hughes
Andy Fleming followed up moments later but his shot from range was blocked, before Paul Mullin turned his way past the Bury defence and unleashed a dangerous drive towards goal from a tight angle which was well saved by Loach.
The half-hour mark brought about a shift in momentum and Bury began to put pressure on the Morecambe goal.
A number of corners and free-kicks threatened to produce a breakthrough as half-time approached but the Shrimps held out to leave the game scoreless going into the break.
The hosts flew out of the traps in the second half and were almost rewarded for their efforts on 57 minutes but Lawrence Wilson’s close-range strike was cleared off the line by Chris Hussey.
On 66 minutes, Shrimps’ boss Jim Bentley looked to change the game for the Shrimps and brought on Jack Redshaw for Alex Kenyon, switching to a 3-4-3 formation and the change paid off almost immediately.
With his first touch of the ball, Redshaw cut inside on the edge of the box and hit a left-footed shot towards the Bury goal which Loach could only push into Ellison’s path for the striker to score.
Morecambe almost doubled their lead on 79 minutes when Ellison and Fleming both had dangerous shots well blocked inside the box before Redshaw stung the palms of the visiting keeper from range.
The Shrimps continued to push forward for a decisive second goal but Ellison dragged his shot wide when one-on-one with Loach before Ryan Edwards had a header tipped over the bat.
But one goal was all that was needed as the Shrimps held out for a well deserved 1-0 win.
