MEET THE BOSS:

Peterborough manager Graham Westley needs no introduction to Preston supporters following his 13-month tenure between January 2012 and February 2013.

Appointed in succession to Phil Brown, he oversaw the summer ‘revolution’ of 2012 at Deepdale. Westley was sacked less than 24 hours after a 3-1 defeat at Yeovil. Within six weeks he had returned to Stevenage and had more than two years in charge there. He left at the end of last season and was out of management until September when he was appointed Posh boss.

MEET THE REF:

Tony Harrington is in charge of Preston’s FA Cup clash with Peterborough.

The Cleveland referee was in charge of PNE’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in November, while he oversaw the JPT penalty shoot-out win at Oldham last season. This is his 16th game of the campaign.

THIS WEEK:

55 YEARS AGO:

On January 9, 1961, Preston beat Accrington Stanley 4-0 in an FA Cup third round replay at Peel Park. Tommy Thompson, Peter Thompson, Davie Sneddon and Derek Mayers scored the goals. The first game at Deepdale had ended in a 1-1 draw.

29 YEARS AGO:

A wonder strike from Ronnie Hildersley gave Fourth Division North End a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough, then leaders of Division Three, in the FA Cup on January 10, 1987. On a frosty Ayresome Park pitch, Hildersley let fly from 30 yards to the delight of 2,000 travelling fans.

22 YEARS AGO:

Preston beat Bournemouth 2-1 in the third round of the FA Cup on January 9, 1994.

David Moyes and Mike Conroy were on target for John Beck’s side in the clash at Deepdale.
