Chorley were denied a third consecutive final appearance in the LFA Challenge Trophy final at Bolton’s Macron Stadium when they were beaten on penalties by the North West Counties club after the game had finished 1-1.

While disappointed to see his men lose to a team who are several divisions below them in the football 
pyramid, Jansen is convinced his men will recover quickly.

They will look to maintain their National League North play-off tilt when they welcome AFC Telford United to Victory Park on Saturday.

“I said to the players, ‘Let this result against Ashton be the kick up the backside for the rest of the season’.

“We have got 10 monster games to come and hopefully this defeat will stir a monster inside of them.

“It’s a rude awakening for us, but hopefully we will put things right against Telford.”

Meanwhile, leaders AFC Fylde are awaiting the outcome of decision by Grimsby Town about whether the Coasters can have defender Dan Jones for a further loan spell – if not, then tomorrow’s clash at Gainsborough Trinity could be his last.

In the National League, rock bottom Southport host fellow relegation strugglers Torquay United. The Sandgrounders have lost six of their past seven games.

Elsewhere, Clitheroe will be aiming to move closer to the NPL First Division North play-off places by beating Mossley at Seel Park. The Blues, who defeated Scarborough 3-2 in midweek, are four points behind fifth-placed Ossett Town in the table. Burscough could do the Blues a favour by getting the better of sixth-placed Colne at Holt House. However, the odds on that happening do not look good as the Linnets are marooned at the bottom – 13 points from safety. Kendal are away to Scarborough.
