Chaplow firing on all cylinders
Preston North End's Richard Chaplow has revealed just how relieved he is to have got his double hernia problem cured.
The PNE midfielder went under the knife during the international break and played just 13 days later against Newcastle.
He's the second Preston player to have the procedure this season, with goalkeeper Andrew Lonergan undergoing hernia surgery in the September break.
Chaplow had put up with the discomfort of the injury since the early weeks of the campaign, and that may have explained some below-par performances from him.
The 24-year-old said: "Anyone who has ever had one before will know that they're not nice and are tough to play with.
"So it's nice to get the operation done and I can look forward to the rest of the season.
"Throughout pre-season I'd been feeling iffy in the stomach area and it was just a matter of playing with it until we got the chance to address the situation.
"That came during the international break and fortunately I was able to get it done in time for the Newcastle game.
"I then trained twice, the gaffer put me in the team and I played 90 minutes."
Chaplow partnered Michael Tonge in the engine room against Newcastle, one of the reasons Tonge was brought in on loan from Stoke was to cover a slower recovery from Chaplow.
