Cal pleas to North End board
Callum Davidson has pleaded with the Preston board not to sell Deepdale's crown jewels.
The experienced Scot is fighting fit again after missing North End's
play-off charge last season through injury.
Davidson flew out with the squad today for the pre-season fitness camp in Austria.
But the ex-Blackburn man says he is worried Preston could be tempted to sell their prize assets, with Celtic boss Tony Mowbray linked with Sean St Ledger while Nottingham Forest remain hot on the trail of captain Paul McKenna.
Davidson said: "We've always had to sell players and that's a fact of life for us, but it is also deeply frustrating for the squad and the supporters when it does happen.
"Sometimes you know the team is only short of a couple of good players to make it an excellent one, so when a top player leaves then that's quite difficult to take.
"We must try everything to keep our best players because that's imperative if we are going to keep moving forward.
"I thought the boys did incredibly well to finish in the top six last season – it was a tremendous effort.
"However, we've got to build on that and keeping our best players is the only way to improve on that."
Davidson said it was a massive boost that manager Alan Irvine had decided to stay at the helm after rejecting the chance to take charge at West Bromwich Albion.
"When I heard Albion wanted Alan it wasn't a surprise considering the job he has done here," added Davidson.
"They saw what he had achieved in 18 months and I did wonder whether he would go when he was having talks and favourite for the job."
