Midfielder Joel Byrom has left Preston North End after having the remainder of his contract terminated by mutual consent.
The 28-year-old straight away joined Northampton Town – where he has been on loan since August – on a deal until the end of the season
East Lancashire-born Byrom joined PNE on a Bosman from Stevenage in July 2012 and went on to make 41 appearances, scoring five goals.
North End manager Simon Grayson said: “We wish Joel well.
“He played some part under me but not as much as he would have liked.
“Earlier this season he went out on loan to play first-team football.”
Byrom’s contract at Deepdale was due to run until June.
