Preston North End boss Simon Grayson is set to have a busy few days next week with plans being put into place for next season’s Championship campaign.

As the dust settled on North End’s historic Wembley
play-off final win over Swindon, several squad players were shown the exit door.

Keith Keane, Lee Holmes, David Buchanan, Scott Wiseman, Jack King and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake were all moved on last week to make some room on the wage bill.

Grayson has yet to dip into the coffers for a new addition ahead of PNE’s return to the English football’s second tier.

But it has been a hectic week behind the scenes at Deepdale and the club are preparing for another possible departure and a new addition.

The Evening Post understands that PNE are ready to make a signing early next week.

A club source said: “It has been a hectic week.

“Quite a few contracts have been offered and answers are expected soon.”

Discussions are on-going with last season’s loan trio Sam Johnstone, Paul Gallagher and Wembley hat-trick hero Jermaine Beckford.

And boss Grayson told the club’s website last week about his desire to secure the services of the loanees for North End’s Championship season.

He said: “I have made it quite public that I would like to retain Sam Johnstone, Paul Gallagher and Jermaine Beckford, so negotiations will be taking place with the relevant parties on all three.”

Talks are still ongoing with left-back Scott Laird, winger Chris Humphrey, midfielder John Welsh, keeper Thorsten Stuckmann and young shot-stopper Steven James.

But it is believed that progress is being made.

So next week should see a number of new contracts announced.

The source also revealed the one-year option on Bailey Wright’s contract has been activated but the club are in talks to extend his spell at Deepdale even further.
